My Award Winning Postive HD Page/Blog
I am 25, am experiencing Huntington’s disease symptoms. My family is one of the few in the world who have early onset. I was a Nurse Assistant before I got sick. I made a positive, comprehensive website. It has a blog, Articles, care giving tips, ways to fight brain fog, myths, my story, my families’ story, history, ways to have a positive testing experience, and ways to cope. I also put on there the poems I got published in the horizon. I now have my personal support group. I have won more awards in a short period time than any other site, 50. 18 are international Awards. I won the World’s Highest Honor the Talking Hands Award.

Fixing the width of a window
Hello:
Like most things having to do with computers, you can accomplish your task in several ways. Here are a couple of ways to control page width.
Method one, use a <div> element. You might try putting the content of your page between Division elements, and include a style attribute: <div style="width:980px">Your content here.</div>. This will fix the width of your page to 980 pixels.
Method two, use a table. I have to warn you that my fellow web designers will cringe and groan at this one for several good reasons that I won't go into here. But, at the end of the day, it works. Try putting your content in a table: <table width="980px"><tr><td width="980px">Your page content here.</td></tr></table>.
Also, keep in mind that it is preferable to control the look and feel of your page, such as controlling page width, fonts, colors, and the like) using Cascading Style Sheets. The Internet has many resources to help you out.
Good luck!

Fixed position
Hello. How do I make my pages stay in a fixed position? When I change the window size (either Restore Down or manually change the size), everything gets squeexed together to fit in the window, but I would like it to stay put.
Thanks!

Be Ready to Learn
Claire, you ask a great question. I'm always full of advice and opinions :), so I could go on for days. But, the most important thing is to always be ready to learn. Technology and the Internet evolve so rapidly that no one person can keep up with it all and it seems overwhelming at times. The only way to be happy and successful in this business is to keep questioning things and be grateful that no matter how smart we get there are always people around who know more than we do and that they are often willing to share their phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Keep learning by whateever means necessary--classes, computer based training, books, and anything else that will keep your personal knowledge growing. Good luck!

Is it OK to Flash?
Macromedia's (now Adobe's) Flash is a wonderful tool for adding animation and glitz to a website. But, does the "less is more" rule apply here? I think so. Before you invest time and money in a Flash project, ask yourself what, specifically, the Flash will contribute to your website's message. For example, I can't imagine a disk jockey's site without Flash--sound, movement, and energy is at the very heart of what a DJ does. But, what if you are an attorney or a health care provider? Is Flash really essential under those circumstances, or would Flash be a distraction, or, worse, an irritation to your site's visitors who want to get what they came for and move on?

Expression Studio Replaces FrontPage?
Will Microsoft's Expression Web Designer product replace FrontPage? It's very early to draw a conclusion about that, but check out the new offering: Go to microsoft.com and type Expression Web Designer in the search box.

The Web Is More Interactive Than Ever
Even though we have had the Internet in its current form for only about 10 years, it has come a very, very long way. Not only can we now order products and services online, we can interact with each other through message boards like this one, blogs, and other technologies that are so new and innovative it's hard to wrap our minds around them.
The only thing we know for sure is that the Internet and websites will continue to evolve and become more interactive. So, here is your space to share news, information, and comments about Web design. Welcome!
